One machine for every 130 inhabitants with a total of 3.8 M dispensers. These are the high figures that the vending sector moves in Europe. This market segment generates a turnover of €14,600 million. The sector is shared among 10,000 companies that employ 85,000 people. This is the data offered by European Vending Association (EVA),which pools together the employer organisations of the automatic vending sector in 14 countries.
The growing tendency to follow a healthy diet as well as the revival in consumption outside the home has benefited vending operators; factors that in parallel also boost the increase in the installation of drinking water fountains and water coolers such as those of Canaletas.
Tax on sugary drinks helps to increase water consumption.
In keeping with other countries, in 2017 a new tax will be levied on sugary and carbonated beverages. The Minister of Finance, Cristóbal Montoro, indicated that it has been included in the budget plan and beverages with high sugar content will be taxed, which in particular affects the soft drink sector, in line with what other countries such as the United Kingdom have already implemented or with what Portugal plans to apply.
“A reduction in the consumption of these types of beverages”, according to Canaletas, “could help to reduce diseases such as diabetes or obesity. In addition to this, the importance of consuming more water is a point that must be addressed in parallel.” Canaletas, with its drinking water fountains and water coolers contributes to this cause.
Canaletas is a family company founded in 1965 which focuses its activity on designing and manufacturing different kinds of drinking water fountains and water coolers, and also commercializing water filters. It has more than 50 different models adapted to the requirements of the customer, as drinking fountains for companies, factories, home, schools ... etc. Placed in Barcelona, the company has delegation in Madrid and an extensive network of distributors covering the entire country.
