The European Commission reviews legislation to improve water quality standards
Water coolers. News 11/12/2017With the objective of reducing use of plastic bottles, as well as improving the wellbeing of citizens and increasing savings, the European Commission has announced a legislative review to improve tap water quality standards.
To do so, the Commission will launch information campaigns on water quality and also intends to improve access to drinking water in public spaces, whether through drinking water fountains or water coolers.
In terms of safety, the proposal advocates updating the list of criteria including new bacteria and waste, following the recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO).
In order to protect consumers, the Commission intends to strengthen its position with drinking water fountains offering more and better information so that users have the necessary tools for choosing between bottled water and tap water.
